Sunday and more Day 1's!

Good morning, world!  Here are a few more of the Day 1 participants.  I'm going to leave day 2 until Tuesday so that I'm pretty sure that those who want to start with us have plenty of time.

First in today is from Susie K who says:-
"I just started tatting and this is my first time with size 20 thread. I won't even tell you how long this took me! ;-)
I'm looking forward to the other clues!
Thanks for doing this!
Susie Kline"

Next in is Monica from Argentina and I think I can see sunshine on her work.  Strange as it's SOOOOO cold here to see sunshine!!!  Perhaps that's why she's made this guess - they do live in warmer climates!!!  Anyway, here's what she says:-
"Good morning Jane!

I am a bit late starting, but here I am! I had wound my shuttles last week and could not find them until yesterday afternoon... I finally got my tatting done on the starting day, but I only just now have a chance to write to you...

I am using Lizbeth Juicy Watermelon (yum! I love watermelons, they are in full season here! So refreshing...). I can tell you with this start, I would have chosen the hook shuttle for the rings too!

And I am going to make a guess! I showed it to everyone around, but nobody ventured anything! However, I know I have the right answer already - it is going to be a giraffe!
Peace to you,
Mónica from Argentina"

I had to giggle at Karla's comment - you can see why when you read it here:-
"Hi!
I didn't have any variegated thread when it started, or size 20 =( but hopefully it still turns out okay =)
From My Secret Underground Bunker in Switzerland"
It's the last sentence that made me laugh!!!

Finally before I stagger off to find breakfast I'm adding Grace's day 1 to the blog.  Here's her comment:-
"Here's my Day 1 tatting! Guesses — (1) It's the underbelly of a crocodile! (2) It's the spinal column of a skeleton (but maybe not; that would be in white)!

BTW, the automatically generated title of this e-mail is "TIAS 2011". :-)

Cheers, Grace"

Next one (post breakfast) into my inbox is from umintsuru who has sent me the link to her blog and a picture to share too.  Here's what she says on her blog.

I've just found another participant in the blogs that I follow.  The colour goes with Surya's name which means sunshine.  Wish we'd got sunshine here!!!  Here's a link to her blog.  Surya has sent me in her comment now - she says:-
"I'm looking forward to Day 2.  Looking at the nice straight line of rings, I think it is some piece of heavy equipment.  A tractor?  A truck?
Hoping some sunshine comes your way."

Next in is from Jon in Malaysia.  She's using some of Zarina's thread which is lovely and she also says:-
"This is my TIAS Day 1.  I am using Zarina's HDT size 20.  There is some that I already have in the ez-bob, so I just load about 7 yards on a shuttle and got started.  Since shuttle 2 requires not that much thread, I just leave the rest on the ez-bob and will use that as  shuttle 2 when needed.  There isn't much of this thread left.  I don't know how much of it will be needed in all, and I am sure you are not going to tell, so I may have to change to another colour if I run out.
Jon"

Would you believe I could be so stupid?  REALLY cold day here and I go down the town for milk and to have my HAIR CUT!!!  Still some old gits never learn.
Next into the inbox is from Claudia who says:-
"I try to send my day 1 from the iphone. Easier to send when making the pic
No guess at the moment.

Greetings from cloudy Switzerland

Claudia"

Next in is from Roelien who says this:-

"I hope my result of the first day of the Tias will arrive at your adres. Please let me know will you.
Thank you.

Many greetings,

Roelien Moesker from the Netherlands"

Guess what?  My little (much younger as she'll always point out!) sister has started the TIAS this time too.  Here's what Sally says:-
"On this auspicious occasion I decided to unwrap two of my Aerlit tatting shuttles which I won from Handy Hands many months ago.
But first I had to choose the thread and then match the shuttles accordingly, a slow start but I'm off!!"

Now I've got Emilia's day 1 and she says:-
"Hello Jane,
What fun again that you organize another TIAS. Hereby is a picture of the first day.
This morning I searched the internet if I could find an instruction for the Catherine wheel join. I found an instruction film on youtube and after a little practice I think I know how it works. Although a lock join works fine as well.
I am looking forward to day two. With regards Emilia Netherlands"
I will give a link to a page on my tips and techniques site when we get to the Catherine wheel join, Emilia but as you say - the lock join works just as well!!!

Next to pop in is Alison who has this to say:-
"I got the first day of TIAS 2013 done! So excited to play along this year. Can't wait to see what the pattern turns into. The variegated thread has me very curious!  The thread is Lizbeth, size 20 in 'Sea Island Citrus- #161.'
Have a lovely Sunday!
Take care!"

Oh, my GOSH, one of my favourite designers has started taking part in the TIAS.  A HUGE welcome to Julie Patterson.  Hopefully we'll see more of you back in Tat Land with your wonderful designs now?  Here's what Julie says:-
"Julie from Down Under here.  Finally created a few moments to pick up my shuttles again when I saw your TIAS email.  I realised the last one I did was the hippo which I think was 2008 - how sad, when I enjoyed it so much.  Here's to tatting in 2013!
Thanks for doing another TIAS.  I'm using plain ol' Coats blue variegate and my guess is..... a butterfly.
 Jules"

Now I present Ancolie who has this to say:-
""Hello Jane,
I would like to participate this year, if possible.  here's my day 1. I'm using Lizbeth Cordonnet Size 40 Color 130 “ Island Breeze”
Thank you !
With love from Ancolie from France
http://ancolietattingblog.blogspot.fr/ "
Do check out Ancolie's blog - there's always something interesting to see there.

Now why does a big grin spread across my face when I see Katie V's name in my inbox during a TIAS?  I'll tell you why. I've never thought of a TIAS before as an excuse to 'acquire' pretty shuttles.  She always makes more than one of whatever we're making.  Usually four but this year - well, let her tell and show you!!!
"Happy Sunday, Jane.
TIAS is a great time to use the fancy shuttles--matches the honor of the project, I think!  Thanks to the Hintons and Sherry Pence, I'm spoiled deliciously rotten.  And Sherry and Marilee spoil me with their lovely threads.  As I know you and TIAS well enough, the result will be superb; so, I'm making five.  My guess on Day 1:  the back of a baby stegosaurus, humpabump, humpabump!
Tatty hugs,
Katie"

Have I told you about Riet who is painstakingly translating the TIAS for me into Dutch?  Riet lives in The Netherlands and she takes on this task every year.  Here is a link to her blog and also the picture done by Marieke below.  Thank you to both of you.

I have just found that Charlette is taking part in the TIAS too.  Her blog is here and this is what she says:-
"I visit the site every day Jane Eborall http://janeeborall.blospot.com and I often draws great ideas, but this year I wanted to participate in its TIAS but I do not know how to subscribe to me I allowed myself to start anyway, I hope she does not mind me .. I do not mind that I please guide me You'll find anywhere!!"
I have written to Charlette to say that I'm pleased she is joining in.  The translator does a pretty good job on her blog.  Here's her picture.

Next in is Maggie who is also 'new' to the TIAS. Welcome aboard, Maggie.  She says this:-
"Dear Jane,
Here is my Day 1 tatting for the TIAS. I'm using Lizbeth Root Beer Float.  This is my first TIAS, and I'm excited to see where it goes! No guesses yet...
Thanks,
Maggie
(geek_girl on InTatters)"

Now I have Bernice who is a regular TIASer.  Welcome back, Bernice.  Here's her comment and picture:-
"I decided to try doing the TIAS with both shuttle and needle.  No
ideas yet.  Bernice"

Saturday - Day 1 continued!

Good morning, world.  Here I am after a good night's rest and an inbox full of wonderful tatting.

First in today is from Melanie C who says:-
"I'm moving a bit slow today. It's 3 PM and I'm just now getting to the first set of instructions you posted this morning. I intend to have a picture on my blog : http://picotsnkeys.blogspot.com/ right now my computer doesn't seem to be cooperating. So, I'll just attach a copy to this message.
My guess???? a straight line something.....which reminds me, I have to look againa at...... SORRY....I've been doing that a lot lately. No guess yet.
 Melanie"
Next in is from Frances who has this to say:-
"Here is my Day 1. I was not sure where to send it. Using Lizbeth Purple Splendour - don't think I have spelt that right!"

Now I've got Jo's day 1 and she's a relatively new tatter.  I'm sure you'll be fine with this, Jo.  Here's what she says:-
"Here is my rather late-night TIAS day 01.  Maybe I should have done it when I wasn't quite so sleepy but I wanted to be in on day one.
Even though I've already seen the image on your blog marked "clue 1"  I don't have any blue thread yet so I've used this brown variegated thread which is Puppets Eldorado size 16.
This is my first TIAS since I only started tatting in September 2012."

The next participant was a wonderful surprise to see in my inbox.  Hi, Omar, haven't heard from you 'down under' in ages.  Here's what Omar has to say:-
"Unfortunately I was unable to join the fun last year but hopefully this year
will be different. Here is my day 1 and I think we must be due for that.....
Wigwam for a Gooses Bridle!!
Very best wishes for the New Year from Omar in Australia on a 40 degree day."

Off to have a shower but will be back in a bit to finish updating this blog!!!!

Back again and this time with Maureen's day 1.  She says:-
"Lizbeth Jellybean; and I'm hoping for a rabbit again. Three years ago it wasn't a rabbit - and then we had Norman - and the aeroplane, and the goat - until someone tells me it ISN'T a rabbit in 2013, that is what I am tatting!"
Oh, Maureen if it isn't a rabbit will I lose a friend?
Next into the inbox (I always work from the bottom - first in, first served) is Prabhjyot who has this to say.  Please go and visit her blog too.
"Thanks a lot again for another fun-filled session of tatting when people around the world are working on one pattern & guessing what they will end up making?
Here I am attaching my tatting for the day one & don't want to guess because I love surprises & I waited for this session for two years now.
I have posted my little story along with this same picture at my blog too - http://funwithtatting.blogspot.ca/2013/01/tias-day-one.html
All the best with all your designing sprees.
Thanks again for making an effort to bring tatters around the world at one platform."

Now I have Arial's offering and she says:-
"Here is my entry for your current project. I plan on just sitting back and watching the progress. Done with Lizbeth size 40 Apple Pie.
Pat"

Just off to have breakfast but I'll be back to continue working on the inbox straight after!!!

Breakfast eaten and now a few more before I go out in the rain to Morrison's to shop!
Next in is from Diane who says this:-
"I just posted my Day 1 TIAS (http://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/2013-tias.html). I have no idea what it could be, but I'm going to try and stick with it this year!"

Now I have France's Day 1 to show you.  Actually it gave me an odd feeling when I realised that I'd handled those two shuttles on this side of the world and now they're living with a friend right 'down under'.  Wonderful feeling, I might add.  She says:-
"Well I am home from work and have just completed day 1.  I am using Jess’ HDT Queen Anthias size 20 and two of Him in the sheds shuttles.  As for a guess I will leave that for now.
Stay warm as I try to stay cool,( well over 38 deg C today).
regards Frances."
This is from Wanda who says"-
"Finally got a chance to start,  a bit later than I had hoped to. I'm using Lizbeth thread #131 Vineyard Harvest in size 20. This is my favorite color right now. I have no guess at the moment. Looking forward to finding out what you've come up with this year, it's always good!
Wanda in Kansas, USA"

This is the last in my inbox this morning so after this I'm off to the Supermarket to get something to eat for later. This is from Denise who says:-
"I almost forgot to come check for the new 2013 TIAS. Glad I stumbled on it with such perfect timing. Here is my day one.
I'd like to thank you for holding these yearly surprise tat games. They keep me tatting. Even if it is the only thing I'll tat all year long, I do look forward to them. And thank you for marking the reverse rows. I usually don't try to reverse my second row, but I'm going to do it for this Tias. The extra time it took you to mark the reverse rows is very appreciated!
Of course it is a caterpillar!"

Back from the shopping trip and I've found another 'new to TIAS' tatter in my inbox.  Welcome, Nicole.  Here is what she says:-
"Here is day 1 of my first tias ever (still quite new to tatting)! Unfortunately, I didn't have any variegated thread, this is dmc babylo color 369, size 20.
Best wishes from the Netherlands,
Nicole"

Next in to my inbox is another new participant - this time it's Shelley who says:-
"Morning Jane,
Thank you for hosting this TIAS.  I have wanted to do this for years and finally I have caught it at the start.  Here is my Day 1 tat.
Shelly (aka f10wer on InTatters)"
Welcome, Shelley - good to have you here.

Now I have a message from Helen who has given me her blog url which is here.  Please go and take a peak at her blog if you've got time.  Here is her picture.

Whoooops, just found Deana in my spam folder!!!  This is what she says now I've rescued her!!!
"Just a late comer coming in from London Ontario Canada. This is my 3rd TIAS that I have started (never finished) maybe if I send a daily update it will push me on to the finish. I got home late last night...loaded the old shuttles (nothing special) with Lizbeth size 20 Pink Cocca (needed something something to remind me spring is coming.  Not sure why my day one is curved and everyone else's is straight."

Now I have Adrian's day 1 which is kindly being modeled by - well, let him tell you!!!!
"Here's my day one in variegated thread, on a variegated cat. (She almost never sits on laps, so I didn't have the heart to move her out of the way. Plus she's a very warm fluffy hot water bottle! :)
The thread is "Passionale" from The Yarn Yard, which I bought ages ago but have only just got around to using.
I've absolutely no idea what it could be yet, but looking forward to the next step."

Next to show up in the inbox is Sunela's day 1.  She says:-
"Here us my version of Day 1. I am going to stick to my first guess of " eyeless creature".  This section was definitely easy!
Thanks - Sunela"

Next in is from Elizabeth who says:-
"Jane,
Here is my start to the new TIAS.  I used HH Lollipop.  I was thinking it has a lot of colors to choose from when we need to add on a solid color.
 ELizabeth
Mobile, AL. USA."

Just popped in is my friend Sharren who gets me into such a lot of trouble in Tat Land!!!  Here's her day 1 and comment:-
"Attached is the picture of the Day 1 part, which I just finished a few minutes ago.  I can’t wait to see what it turns out to be, but it’s a little early for me to guess – right now it looks like an inchworm, totally relaxed, stretched out, ready for dreamland!  Can’t wait for Day 2!
 Sharren
Tatting in Greenwood, South Carolina"

Next in is Karen from 'down south' here in the UK!!!!  She says:-
"Well I made it better late than never.  Here is my Day 1 done in Lizbeth Wildflower Garden No: 154 and it looks as if our Jane has gone on the straight and narrow LOL - sorry Hun couldn't resist.  No sensible guess as yet but can't wait for Day 2.Well I made it better late than never."
Karen, there's no such thing as 'late' in a TIAS but it's so good to see you here.

Now I have Margaret who is also from here in the UK!!!!  She says this:-
"Hello Jane,  This year, with nothing else to take up my time, I am in at the start.  Here is my Day 1.  Two of them actually, 'cos I'll never get round to a second one later!  Happy TIAS everyone.  Margaret in Norfolk."

Next in is JB who I had the pleasure of meeting at Palmetto Tat Days in September.  She says:-
"This is a great way to start the New Year.  This is the first thing I have tatted since finishing tatted Christmas presents.  I am excited to be participating.  I am using Jess’ Key Lime Raspberry Parfait that I purchased at Tat Days.  Thanks so much."

Now I have Maria's and she seems to think she may be last but I sincerely hope not.  A reminder - there's no time limit and it's not a race either!!! Here's what Maria says:-
"Am I last the last one?   I am a bit poky lately.... so much to do and I just want to tat  :)  I took a bit of a break from work and finally got day 1 finished, and here it is..... I have no guesses as at this point it could be anything and my brain is too tired to think on it. I am looking forward to further revelations though!"

We're OFF - Day 1

Here we go!!!!  Watch out for postings of completed day 1 pieces as the next few days pass.  I'll let you know when the next part is ready on both this and the regular blog here.

Back from my Friday shopping trip and I'm SO relieved to find these two Day 1's in my inbox!!!

First in is from Jane who says:-
"Hi Jane, I loaded my shuttles with Jess’s tat-ilicious thread this morning and waited with bated breath for the first installment! So here it is. Happy tats, Jane"

Next in is from Fiona - Hi, Fiona!!!  She says:-
"Here is my day one complete. Random guess.  Perhaps its a boat?
Fiona T"
Well, Fiona, it could be, I guess!!!  What a pretty shuttle.

Now we have Ginny W's who comes up with a very good guess too!!! Here's what she says:-
"here is the scan of flag pole!!!"

Next in is from Geraldine who says this:-
"Well of we go again. Is it animal, vegetable or mineral ? Only brain cell3# know's. Here is my first day, I'm using Turquoise Twist 20 Lizbeth thread. A cocktail stick is being used at a picot gauge. Can't wait for day two.
Happy tatting
 Geraldine."

Next in is from here in the UK and from Brenda who says:-
"Hi Jane,
Here is my day one. No guesses at this time, I am rubbish at it.
Brenda. UK"

Well, Brenda, I hope you wouldn't be able to guess at this stage!!  If you could then I've not done my job properly!!!

Just back home again and I find Corina next in my inbox.  This is her blog url where you can see what she says http://handwerktuin.blogspot.co.uk/
Don't you just LOVE the way that blogs translate into your own language automatically?

Next in is from Frivole who says:-
"This is it:  this is the year:  I will join in on the TIAS.  Is this the way to do it?  Did you want a photo of our first little piece?
I chose Lizbeth Blue River Glades which is one of my favourite ever Lizbeth.  No doubt, it will end up being an animal and my blue-green colour choice will be completed wrong but never mind.  I like Blue River Glades.  Mine curves a bit as you can see, don't know if it should be straight and my joining picots were a bit short?  I shall look forward to the next installment!"

Now we have a picture and comment from Madhur who says:-
"Here's my version. I practised frontside backside tatting on the chains. The photo has been taken by cell phone. It didnt do jsutice to the work.
Secondly, I fell it is easier and faster to tat..I mean it takes less time than clicking phots and uploading them..he he he he he..
Nonetheless..I simply love being part of the group.
Regards
Madhur"

Next in is from Sharon who says:-
"Hi, Jane.
I've been looking forward to this for MONTHS!
Here's my day 1.  :-)  playing the game, but making no guesses
sharon (North Carolina, USA)"

My next visitor in the inbox is Winnie who says this:-
"This is day one! It can turn out to be anything at this stage. I am using DMC size 80. The picture is not that clear, couldn't find my camera.
Bye, Winnie"

Now some people try to confuse this old git!!  IsDihara certainly did that today with her picture.  When I saw her message all I could see was the car!!!  I wondered why she was sending me a picture of a CAR!!!  Ah, is that the first correct guess, do you think?  Anyway, here's what she has to say:-

"Yippee!  Day 1 shows great promise already. My guess is skewed by a sighting of Herbie the Love Bug!  Yes, an actual sighting of a modern-day VW Beetle painted to look like the 1964 car from the Disney TV series.  I think Day 1 resembles  the foot board between the front and rear wheels.  Herbie rides again!

IsDihara"

Next in is from Nima who says:-
"Hi Jane,
My day1 progress is attached.
Nima"  Thank you, Nima and welcome aboard!!

A welcome now to Susan who is taking part too for the first time this year.  Here's what she has to say:-
"This is my first time participating in a TIA--have wanted to before but never had the chance!  Here is my day 1.  It is tatted with Lizbeth thread in Peacock Blue.  I had this already on one shuttle wound full for who knows what, so decided to use it.  I am very excited to be able to participate this year!
Susan Havens in Mountain Home, Arkansas"

Now I have Valerie's day 1 - she's in Singapore and this is what she says:-
"hi jane, here's my day 1. i guess it's a bus! hope it's fun for everyone as it's been fun for me. good day. val"

Next in is from Dale Marie who is taking part for the first time too.  She says:-
"This will be the first year I have tatted along with you TIAS. I have admired and procrastinated in the past but here is my day one contribution:-) No guesses just yet as to what it is, but I anxiously await the surprise!
Dale Marie"

I've just found another participant on a blog - it's Quayceetatter and here's her url

Next into my inbox is from Stephanie who has this to say:-
"What fun!  I've been looking forward to the TIAS for months.  Sorry, no guesses from me yet.  I was THINKING of guessing 'a black cat with its eyes closed on a very dark night with his fur reflecting the Aurora Borealis,' but I can't imagine leaving a cat outside on a cold night, so he'd have to be INDOORS near a window with all the lights off, and that's just getting a bit *too* outrageous, even for one of my deliberately crazy guesses.  :-D"

Now I've got Fox's day 1 and she says this:-
"Late to the party… as usual! I was not going to participate this year, but had a stern talking to myself as I am too much of an old “Bah, Humbug!”
So, fickly, I am sending the first tat - no guesses!"
Oh, dear Fox, there's no such thing as 'late' with a TIAS party!!!

Next to pop in to my inbox is Nikki who says this:-
"Ok I finished part one, size 20 peacock blues. And since its so early in the TIAS and with the blues I am calling it a waterfall lol"
Love your suggestion, Nikki but I'm not saying anything to give the game away!!!

Now I have this to show you from Caroline and she says this:-
"I did the last two and really enjoyed them so was really looking forward to this year.  I chose spring colors as it is winter dreary here and to get colder this weekend.  Hope your design is springy.  Caroline Hill"!!!"
Well, Caroline, it's gone really cold here this evening - I'm looking forward to getting to bed now!!!

Another hour before bedtime and I have two more to add.  This is from Michel who says this:-
"Hello Jane,
This is my first TIAS.  My guess is that it is going to be .... fun.
Hélène
Québec, Canada"

Next in is Sandy who is using my favourite (at the moment) variegated Lizbeth thread and she has this to say:-
"Here's my day 1.  I've no idea what you've created for us... but, since I'm tatting with Rainbow Taffy, I'm guessing this is the edge of the roof on a candy house  (of course, this is a magical house that may morph into something quite different as the days go by...)
Sandy S"

Now dropping into my inbox is Andrea who says:-
"Here is my picture of Day 1 ... I did two!!!  I thought I would do two as it's my second year.    The ceramic shuttle was a Christmas gift from my daughter (purchased from 'Lady Shuttlemaker') and the thread is Lizbeth 20 shade 132.  The other piece is made from an old Coats chain mercer crochet 20s thread in rainbow colours.  I think this could be a train .. there I made a guess!!!!  Looking forward to the next installment and very appreciative of your efforts. Just love the fact that I don't know what the heck I'm making. :):)
Best wishes
Andrea"

Next in is Mary Jo who has also made a guess already.  Here is what she says:-
"Here is day 1.  I think it will be a Victorian pram!  Mary Jo

P.s.  I think Stephanie and I are using the same color way.  Lizbeth 122 Caribbean."

Now I have Jenny from here in the UK and she says:-
"Here is my day one.  It is worked in Lizbeth 20 but I don't know the shade as it was a sample.  I am using my new Aerlit shuttle which I got at Christmas.I am rather late sending this as I have been to Nuneaton with my sister to see the Lace98 group exhibition.  It was very inspiring and good to see some tatting among the bobbin lace.
Jenny"

Next into my inbox is from Sonja who says:-
"Here my first day from Holland. I used Lizbeth 20,  Ocean sunset. I love your TIAS. Too early guess about what it will be.
With love from Sonja from Holland"
The final addition to the blog today is from Marie Smith who says:-
"I am using Herbal Garden from Lizbeth size 20. My grandsons like it, too, as it is camo colors. Maybe it is going to be the pinky finger of a glove. - Big ol' hug, Marie (SC - USA)"
Goodnight, world.  See you on the 12th with more day 1's completed, I hope!!!!
