Good morning once again!!!! I have a few more additions to this TIAS I'm pleased to say.

81. First in this morning is from Leah who says:-

82. Next in is from Martha. I thought the other day that Martha was having problems with the TIAS as she was constantly changing shuttles but now I know she was just trying to trick us all!!!!

Here I am done at last! Of course, each part took only a few minutes, but I've been easily distracted lately. This was both a lot of fun for the game and a great pattern as well.

Sunday's additions!!

I have had a big temptation here today!!! I've been counting people taking part in this year's TIAS and NOT the quantity of goats!!! We had 70 (a nice round figure) when I went to bed last night and I'm still hoping to hit 100. So, when the first ones in my inbox happened to be a herd of four from one person then I was tempted to make that up to 74!! BUT I'm not a cheat so this counts as number 71!!!!

71. The four I've been talking about are from Katie who says:-

Saturday and more goats!!

Thank you to everybody who has sent in goats already. This blog will remain open for goats for the next year!!! There are now 58 in and I'm seriously keeping my fingers crossed that we make 100. That's my target!!! I have a few more in this morning which are as follows.

59. So, first this morning is from Anita with some wonderful pictures and a great explanation too. Here's her offering:-

Well, we've gone through quite an evolution since day one. Here's my collage of days 2-11.

I decided to take Tatters home, for after all, where is a goat more satisfied than at home, eating the clothes off the clothesline??

A bit of explanation about the picture.
The 5th Wheel RV in the background is our home...we travel full time. Our roots are in Indiana, where our family still lives. In the summer, we often camp host at a State Park there. Of course, as in many parks, there is a rule against having a clothesline out front. I compiled this photo as a joke for our coordinator and titled it "On Connie's Day Off".
It provided the perfect backdrop for Tatter's final appearance.

I have enjoyed this so much, Jane! I hope to eventually be able to design some of my own tatting ideas, and your patterns give me such inspiration. I love to see how you manage to get from one element to another, such as you did to get back up the legs.

"I'm kinda sorry that I used the green shade of cotton but glad I chose the pearls - kind of classy looking is my "gruff goat" minus this scraggly goatie!!!

I just LOVE these TIAS - Tat it and See what it grows up to be!!! It's too bad Jane does these only yearly, but I'm sure it takes ages to plan them out and then prepare the individual steps for all of us to enjoy! So yes I will wait patiently for the next one.

BUT in the mean time I think I'm going to prepare a type of CQd block for the two I've participated in and do some kind of wall hanging that will grow with each new TIAS I participate in. Yep I like this plan more and more."

Last day - so sad

Yes today will be a sad day as it's the last of my TIAS 2012. Please, pretty please with sugar on the top will you send in your country and any blog urls with the final day 12? I'll 'harvest' the blog addresses and then eventually add them to my own main blog and to my web site links too. I'm intrigued (as so many of you are) to see where everybody lives too. I'll number each entry so we can easily keep count as well!!

Ah, before I say anymore - do please check out yesterday's blog. I messed up on Sarah's poem at the start. I left out the last two or three paragraphs. I do apologise to everybody and particularly to Sarah.

Now I'm sure that the TIAS will keep me busy collecting goats (does that make me a goatherd?) over the next few days but after that there'll be a big gap in my life. What will I do with it?

First of all I must add the goat pattern to my web pages - in fact, I'll do it now. Do you like his name? I wonder who it's named after? Any guesses?

Many thanks must go to my very kind testers on this year's TIAS. They were Gina (tatting goddess) and Riet. Their blogs are here and here.

"So you notice the upturned front leg. Well... I used the wrong shuttles to do the sr so when I got to the end the thread was facing wrong way to do the chains. So realizing sending my work to you to pick out my rings would mean using the mail ( not a very good history there) and would take too long. lol. So I picked out the last ring and opened the next and reversed the ring and then switched the shuttles. The result is a goat playing football! Next billy will be better! Sue Anna"

"Came home from picking up a granddaughter from Ballet to find Goat hopping aroundon his three legs, waiting for the fourth one! And he was so insistent thatI sat down to attend to the ommission before the customary evening Spot. Which was a big mistake, because he seems to have two of leg number three...and is therefore destined to hobble around in a slightly leaning- over manner.Nevertheless, as soon as he could he leapt into his favourite book and announced that of COURSE he was there to make up numbers as the Fourth Billy Goat Gruff.
This has been great fun, as it always is - in company with everyone else, I add my thanks for all the effort you make to amuse us all in the New Year."

I don;t blog but I'm from West Valley City (just west of Salt Lake City and the 2nd largest city in Utah) in the Western United States. My 3 year old grand-daughter has laid claim on this version of Mark the Goat so he will be going to live at her house.

Well here we are on the penultimate day of the TIAS 2012. Before I start on the day's uploads I want to share this poem which I was very touched by and which Sarah Smith sent in a week or more ago.

LIFE ~ TIAS

The pattern of life is tatted with little knots,
And only seen in small snapshots.

How it turns out is only a guess,
But with patience and persistence it does progress.

The threads of friendship do entwine,
And add color to life’s design.

The pattern itself might be hard to do,
But support from our friends will see us through.

With laughter and smiles and words that encourage;
We move beyond the parts that discourage.

There may be a part we approach with fear,
But we push ahead, we persevere.

And just when we think our skills are weak,
VOILA! we have mastered a new technique.

There may be something we didn’t do right,
But we adapt and gain insight.

Perhaps there’s a portion where frustrations run high
And we sit down to have a good cry.

At times progress is slow ...
Where will this lead, we want to know.

Sometimes there are errors that must be undone,
And that, I admit, is not much fun.

But on occasion, those corrections,

Here it is - the first of the day 11's!!! I am pleased to announce that Maureen from 'down under' is first in this time. Thinking about this - do those who are 'down under' in our view think of us on this side of the world as those 'up above' or also think of us as 'down under'. Interesting thought!! Here is what Maureen has to say:-

"Day 11 - and Goat is a little aggrieved that he is a bit lop-sided in the leg department. I'm sure he's looking forward to receiving his final limb on Day 12.He's a Blue-nosed three-legged chevron on the hoof......"

Here is one of the Billy Goats Gruff. I hope I didn't do something wonky with that leg. Maybe the with the other leg it look a little better.
I've been trying to come up with things to tat for little boys and I think this is something they will really like. I can see pillow cases with 3 Billy Goats Gruff trotting along the side, going up to the hillside to make themselves fat. Once the complete pattern is done I'm pretty sure it won't take very long to get them done :-)

What a cute creature this pattern has turned out to be! Tatters the Goat is so colorful that I decided he needed a colorful background, so I've taken him to the Badlands of South Dakota, USA, where his multicolored coat will almost provide camouflage.
I've loved all the posts, but especially want to give a thumbs up to Gunhild for her idea on Friday of a cowboy boot. Think about it, Jane, with just a little bit of tweaking, it could have been a cowboy boot instead of a goat.

First of all today I have a couple of 'firsts' from Jenni. She's just joined us (first first) but had done two other TIAS's 'in the dark' before (second first). IF you follow my convoluted brain. A very, very warm welcome, Jenni. Here is what she says:-

"Sigh.......I became aware that Goat had a visual problem - he was having difficulty seeing, with that tiny little eye. Spent a long time this afternoon, unpicking back to Day 9, and he DOES have a bigger eye now.....but his nose seems to be exactly the same. Must be the heat, or lack of gin - or both!"

I have now regained my clarity after a bit of sleep and when I finished the black tatted version this morning, I realized that in my needle version I did last night after having a few tippers, Ihad joined R33 in between R28 & R30 instead of between R27 & R28. Of course, my OCD got the better of me and I have now amended it. I also think that the critter is not going to be a silly billy goat, but a nanny goat as there are still another 3 days of instructions to go which would be more than enough for another set of legs and feet. That is to say, I think that there will some tricky bits to do for an udder. Anyway, all the guessing is just another part of the mystery, excitement and enjoyment I am getting out of participating in this.

So here is my effort with the needle tatting, after several attempts. My partner says it is a very silly billy goat, and I think I have to agree.
The shuttle version will be a lot longer in coming as I have a very hectic weekend ahead.

Second in today is from Coretta. I'm so sorry to hear your news. Hope things are improving for you. Here's what has held Coretta back from joining us earlier:-
"Included are days 1-2. I am quite behind. I thought I would have a lot more time for tatting while in the hospital the last week with my youngest son. However, an almost 1 year old who is learning to walk takes a lot of energy to keep happy in a hospital. I luckily had some of what I think is size 20 HDT from Greengal and a few beads (that I hope will suit) in my emergency tatting bag which I grabbed as we headed to the hospital in the AM. I downloaded pattern days 1-5 and my guess was a Doe. Now though my guess is goat. My sister guessed a unicorn, she had to have looked at the blog, instead of the picture I posted because there is nothing unicorn about day 2. :)"

Back again from my sort of abortive trip out. Why do some days just NOT behave themselves? Anyway, I have Grace's days 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 now and she has this to say:-

Well, I was busy over the weekend, but I had a day off today. So, here are Days 3 to 7! I actually made a mistake for Day 4 (or Day 5?), and the legs somehow ended up facing the wrong way. Luckily, since they were just joined at one point, I was able to turn them 180 deg and join correctly (I think!) to the side of the square with the picots. I'll get Day 8 to you soon. BTW, am I supposed to say what thread I'm using? It's Milward Mercer Ombre Purple, size 20.

I like the way you anchor parts with the vsps. I have tatted patterns that ended up limp and if I would think and add a vsp once in while in strategic places it would look much better. I will have to remember to try it. My problem is I have a tendency to get them to small and have to really hunt for them. I know the end is coming and I wish it wasn't. Thanks so much for all of the fun. I have even had my son in Dallas, Texas and brother in Phoenix, Arizona guessing and they have not done any better than our group has.

And here is Day 7, but Jane put another one of those SCRMs into it!!! But this time I reread the SCRM instructions and it was a lot clearer to stitch up right from the beginning. But still clueless as to what it is going to be!!!"

Poor Brenda suddenly realised she'd missed out a chain somehow so she's started again. Here's what she has to say:-
"I don't know how I missed a chain. I couldn't leave it at that so I have done it again. This is my 4th attempt.
I have changed colour because I got fed up of seeing the green. I think it was unlucky for me. LOL.
The day I spilled the tea on my work was a day that never got any better.

"I am finally up-to-date with the TIAS on Day 7.
At Day 6, I thought Day 7 will give the other two legs and turn it into a crab. Instead I see a butt and a bushy tail, so it can't be a crab.
When I saw the tail, the first thing that came to mind is a llama. Don't ask me why, it just did.
So that is my guess, a Llama ... until you come up with more surprises, I will stick with it for now.

"I'm glad we're repeating techniques. The second "leg" (?) was easier and looks nicer than the first. This SCMR was MUCH smoother and I didn't panic when it wouldn't close, just worked out where the problem was (thankfully where I switched shuttles rather than before the ring!) un-picked and re-did.
As far as guessing what it is, well I'm afraid I'm just enjoying the "story" - I never try to work out "whodunnit" in murder mystery stories either."

Now next in my inbox (I work strictly on a 'first come, next into the blog' basis) is Monica who says:-
"Good Morning Jane!As you can see, I got up at my usual time today, and started my morning sipping iced tea and tatting the tail of the ostrich. Next in is from Suzanne who made me howl with laughter. First of all I suggest you make a cup of tea/coffee before you settle down to read her comment:-
"Having slaked his powerful thirst at the oasis, the camel cushed under a date palm to await the rest of the caravan and ponder his fate. Life with a salt caravan is harsh: if you fall behind, you are left to die. What happens if you run ahead to the oasis because you are ever so thirsty (having munched on some of your load, in order to lighten it)? Do they let you back in line? Do they leave you here to rot?

As preoccupied as he was with his thoughts, he didn't notice at first that the palm tree was speaking to him. "Ahem. Pardon me for being forward, but I don't often see a camel out here alone in the desert. I am, in fact, a magic palm tree with the power to grant life-changing wish. Until now, I have not spoken because nobody ever comes here alone. With only one wish to grant, I did not want to create discord and envy that would potentially lead to violence." He paused, to rustle his fronds, and then asked: " Is there perhaps something you would like?"

Startled, the camel leaped to his feet and stared up into the fronds, looking for the trickster who must be playing a prank on him. There was nobody there. Just a huge clump of juicy dates. "Well", he began hesitantly, "I really would like a different life. Hauling salt for hundreds of miles across the desert is not much fun. Could you perhaps turn me into a small dog that could ride on a camel, and live with people in tents?" "Consider it done!" said the palm.

When the salt caravan arrived, they were astounded to find a little Jack Russell terrier, all alone under a date palm. Of course, by this time, our thirsty camel turned terrier was getting hungry and beginning to think that he might have made a mistake. If another caravan (with tents) did not come along soon, he would starve or, worse, be eaten by the men from the salt caravan!

(This TIAS has taken on a life of its own....)"

Now I present Melanie's and I'm sure she's trying to make me jealous with the description of her morning. Dull and dank here in my part of the UK. This is what she says:-

The sunrise was lovely again today. The fog cleared over us, but stayed in the hills. As the sun crested the Eastern hills, everything lit up! Sigh!! It was loverly to watch as I finished my cuppa.
Then, I finished Day 6. I'm thinking legs of something with a square body. But, there are those two beads rattling around on the shuttle. Don't have any better idea to what I am making with your excellent directions. Such a fun game!"

Next to pop into my inbox is Barbara who sounds a bit confused!! She says:-

Well here is day 6 and it has not helped me at all with my guessing... hmmmm....I think my guess today is......sigh.....(shoulders shrugging)...I don't know!!!! LOL having fun!!!"

Now I have Miranda's day 6 to share. She says:-

Imagine, when I worked on his kite, Pimboli was cross with me, he couldn't play, grrrr...
but now, Pimboli is soo happy, because his "kite" has got"two tails" now ,

Next to drop in with a very sad story of her day 6 is Brenda from here in the UK. She says:-
"Can I borrow your No.3 brain cell please?
I was waiting for day 6 so that I could do it before going out.
I finished it, and as I went to get my scanner I knocked
my cup of tea over, of course it went all over my work.
I had to go out after I had cleaned all the mess up. I had to do the whole thing again.
How stupid can you get. Not only did I ruin my TIAS I also
missed out on my cup of tea before I went out.
I am not going to attempt to guess, I am just glad it is done."

Now I have Margaret's day 5 and she has this to say:-

Finally on this upload session I have Wendy who is having problems with her beads. I suggest you unwind a couple of yards of thread, move the beads onto the shuttle and then re-wind. They can be a pain. Anyway this is Wendy's comment:-
"I hope we get to use the beads soon, they are driving me up the wall, sliding up and down the thread. They won't stay on the shuttle. What am I doing wrong?"

Back again only five minutes later!!!
This time I have Sonja's comment and such a pretty picture and suggestion too. Here they are:-

I've just seen Sherry's blog and her guess at the TIAS. Here's a link to her post. I think it's a really cool idea.

Next I have another sad story from Geraldine. It wasn't Friday 13th today, was it? Anyway this is what she has to say:-
"Well what a day, had food hygiene training with exam at the end.(hope I passed).
Thought I would relax and do day 6, started ok then on 4th split ring thread split tryed to sort it then big disaster thread broke. Out came new thread and a re-tat was done. If you turn it, it looks like horns of a cow or a goat well that's my guess for today.

We are five tatters who meet every fortnight for tatt and chatt and now we are all doing TIAS 2012. Tonight we have finished day 5 after some problems languagewise and technical, SCMR was a first for some as well as Lj, I had forgotten what SLT stood for so just left it out ! One of us doesn't use the Internet so she did days 2 to 5 tonight. Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow and day 6.
